MEET OUR COACHES

Coach Eric Bertram

Head Coach

I started playing tennis in 10th grade in Rochester, MN, where I showed up with high-top basketball shoes and my Grandpa's wooden racquet.  Although my first loves were basketball, baseball, and football, I fell in love with tennis once I tried it and have never looked back.  I now play competitively at a very high level across the state and love competing and meeting new people through the sport.

I have been honored to be the head coach for Anoka boys' tennis for over ten seasons. I love how tennis allows student-athletes to build friendships, learn a sport that can bring joy and excitement for years to come and compete toward team goals. I truly love this team and all the amazing student-athletes who are a part of the Anoka family.

Coach Mike Hayes

Assistant Head Coach, Varsity/Jr. Varsity

My brother and I learned to play tennis together in the Anoka-Hennepin Community School summer program. We would ride our bikes up to the courts after a hard day working at one of the local farms, Edward F. Fields and Sons, in Andover. The instructor still gives us a hard time for leaving dirt trails all over the courts. I played high school tennis for Blaine and was a team captain in my senior year. I look forward to continuing to hone my skills as a tennis instructor, learning from all the other coaches, and hopefully passing on my knowledge and love for the game to the student-athletes at Anoka. When I'm not at the tennis court, I enjoy gardening in the backyard and playing pickleball in the front yard.

Coach Clint Seul

Assistant Coach/Jr. Varsity

Hello, Anoka Tennis families. I am Coach Seul, and this is my second year coaching in the tennis program.  I am very excited to get out and work with the boys.  My passion developed in High School, playing high school team.  I have also played recreationally for many years.  I know that for the players to develop, I need to create fun, positive, and informative practices.  With that, I hope to instill a passion in the players here at Anoka that will last a lifetime.  It’s going to be a great season!

Coach Grace Zachman

Assistant Coach/Jr. Varsity

I've played tennis since I was about eight or nine years old. Since then, there hasn't been a year or a summer that I haven't played. In high school, I played for the Elk River Varsity Team all four years. I then played in college for the St. Mary's University of Minnesota team, ending my college career at one doubles and one singles. I have been coaching the boys' tennis team for several years. Tennis has been a big part of my life for a long time, and I enjoy helping student-athletes grow their skills in a game they can play for the rest of their lives.

Coach Dave Malek

Jr. Varsity/Varsity Volunteer

I began playing tennis at age 10, hitting against a board in South Minneapolis, and later played for Henry Sibley High School. My daughter graduated from Anoka in 2017 and was a member of the JV tennis team, while my son is currently a freshman at Anoka. For the past 20 years, I’ve competed in adult tournaments and leagues, finding that tennis keeps me competitive in my professional life while fostering teamwork.

Tennis builds character and sportsmanship, and I hope to instill these traits in our young players. With a keen eye for the technical aspects of the game and a passion for developing advanced strategies, I enjoy helping players grow and reach their full potential on the court.
